Happy Plant A Flower Day

Updated: Sep 30, 2022

We love how they’re just meant to bloom — no questions asked. The flower’s approach to life is worth emulating! National Today

Flowers have huge power over us, they have even crushed economies. When I started writing this post, I was thinking of Tulip Mania but a quick search to make sure the name was correct, turned up more than one-time flowers have crashed an economy. Seems Covid has created “the crash of the $8.5 billion global flower trade” which is heavily affecting Kenya and other parts of the world.

In the USA a “study pegs the industry’s total impact at 4.23 percent of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP…” which is a big reach for such little beings. So, it isn’t surprising that there is a National Plant a Flower Day, what I find interesting it that it isn’t a bigger holiday like earth day or valentine’s day given all the money behind flowers already.

Like many I love seeing flowers in bloom; I’m currently hoping and waiting for the hibiscuses to come back. I absolutely love them. We have a marsh (white), scarlet, and rosella that we planted last year. This year I’m not sure what we will be planting since I haven’t been to the garden shops and growing from seed hasn’t been working for me. I’m also looking forward to the Native Plant Sale on March 19th, where I hope to pick up blueberries and other things; it happens to also be the day we get more bees.

Oh, I mentioned flowers’ power over us, a great documentary is The Botany of Desire: A Plant’s-Eye View of the World.

What flowers are you planting or are your favorite? Tell me in the comments section
