March In-Season Challenge

This month’s challenge for In Season is to make violet water. I have Common Blue Violet (Viola sororia) growing all over my yard and it’s currently flowering like crazy. This morning I took a stroll around the yard and collected a half cup of violet flowers, brought them inside and rinsed them off.

Then I filled a mason jar with a cup of water, added the violets and blended them on high for about a minute. This produced a lovely purple water, sadly my blender isn’t a Vitamix so there was a bit of “sludge” after blending. I decided to strain this out.

I choose not to add honey as suggested in the recipe since I wanted to know how it tasted by itself. I’m glad I did since this taste is so light that the honey may have hidden it. There isn’t much of a taste, maybe a bit “green”; it does however taste and feel like a mucilage which it is.
