Today we Get Comfortable with Poke. When we purchased this house in 2017, I noticed these strange plants. Over the course of the next year, I learned a little about them and hear that they were toxic. I set to removing them from the yard at least where I wanted to put things.
Each time I would pull one up it would end up in the yard waste pile in our backyard. After a while, I noticed they were growing on the pile. I left them thinking as we added to the pile they would die off. This didn’t happen, they grew big and healthy. I left them since they were in the yard waste pile and I had grown to love how they look.
Duncan still wasn’t a fan. So we started moving them to just two areas, the yard waste pile and right by the back gate. It has been a few years now and the yard waste pile is mostly gone and so are most of the poke that lived in it. The ones in the front are still going strong.
At this point, Duncan and I love the Seususness of how they grow. I keep hoping to find someone that has worked with this plant to talk to about it. I would love to work with Poke but all the warnings have me a bit concerned to do so without guidance.
“Get Comfortable” is an in-depth look at the plant and each part that makes up the plant while noting all the features one sees. We visit the same plants from the “A Moment” series, this time doing about ten to fifteen minute, visual plant sit meditations with the plant. Currently, the videos are recorded one month in advance and released every Wednesday. Click here to view the rest of the series.
This series inspiration was the guided meditation from The Holistic Herbalism Podcast.
